*Letter to the Editor* Quit following the Hamline flock

Attention all Hamline sheep. Here is something to gnaw on in response to all the articles printed in the editorial section of the Oracle: Hamline is a place that harbors victims! These are victims of being bullied, of teasing, of criticism, of stigmas, athletes that settle for D-3 credentials, and everyone has nothing better to do then complain about problems that don’t exist. Hamline makes us think that everything is going to be okay, they protect us, and they give us a false sense of the world. Every week the Oracle is filled with articles about disappointed people complaining of racism, reverse racism, political correctness, oppression, and anything else one could imagine. They complain of being victims, and instead of doing something, they chose to write about it.

The only thing we are victims of is our own ignorance. If we decide that someone calling us a bad name or someone saying an inappropriate comment is victimizing, then we are ignorant, because instead of saying how we feel in the situation, we chose to perpetuate it by not saying anything. Then we write about it. The problem lies not in the individual but in the institution.
Institutions force us to see the groups, teach us to be politically correct and to not stand up for our beliefs, to follow the crowd. But it doesn’t stop there, because if we as individuals decide to be victims of an institution, we are ignorant! We have to remember that, regardless of the situation or rules that an institution provides, we still have a choice! Instead of pointing fingers and blaming everyone else but yourself, turn and look in the mirror and realize you have the power č the power to choose! Eleanor Roosevelt once said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.” So don’t let other people ruin your life with a comment! We get taught (by the institutions) more about our differences and forget about our commonalities. Realize that we are all humans and we need each other regardless of our menial differences: We have the power to choose! Choose not to be a victim!
