Anderson, Schrupp lead women’s cross country at MIAC championships

Staff Writer

The Hamline women’s cross country team overcame rain, wind, and muddy terrain to put forth a successful MIAC championship showing last weekend.

The Pipers placed ninth out of the 12-team field.

“I think that we had a very good meet overall,” coach Toby Hatlevig said. “We were able to beat two conference teams, St. Kates and Bethel, which we had not been able to beat throughout the season.” Hamline also beat Saint Mary's, who finished in last place.

Carleton won the conference championship and Gustavus came in second.

Junior and top runner Keidra Anderson led the Pipers, finishing fourth overall in a field of 268 runners.
Anderson covered the six-kilometer course in a time of 19:20. This performance garnered Anderson an all-conference MIAC honor.

Anderson was not alone on the podium after the race.

She was joined by sophomore Lacee Schrupp, who crossed the finish line in 19:49, placing her 11th overall.

“Our top two runners ran very good races,” Hatlevig said. “This is the first time since I have been coaching here that we have had two runners achieve all-conference status in the same race.”

Other runners that stepped up for Hamline were junior Sara Warnke (59th overall) and sophomore Jackie Lawrence (63rd overall).

Both of these runners achieved personal best performances, a show of their competitive spirit and
physical fitness despite the difficult weather conditions that they ran in.

The Pipers will next compete this weekend at the NCAA Central Region meet in Waverly, Iowa, an event hosted by Wartburg College.

The Pipers aspire to finish in the top ten at the meet, where Anderson has a chance at an NCAA-championship berth.
