Votergasm - Making voting sexy again

Brian Voerding
Editor in Chief

Sometimes convincing 20-something denizens to vote takes a more quirky, modern approach then the tired charges of responsibility and obligation offered by average politicians.

And what’s more convincing then sex?

Votergasm.comčthe brainchild of Oxford graduate Liz Gately and a brigade of her Ivy League friendsčis a website devoted to registering citizens and asking them to take the Votergasm pledge, which includes having sex with voters on election night and withholding sex from non-voters.

*Letter to the Editor* Thumb up to allies, thumb in nose toward drag show and "the Gay Agenda"

For those curious, this letter is written in response to Coming Out Week, the drag show, and Andrew Cole’s Oct. 12 "Gay Agenda" article. Now, before I get started, I want it known that I am not considered a very PC or nice person. I make rude and derogatory comments, normally aimed at minorities and underprivileged people. That’s the kind of person I am. And considering how I normally am, I felt it was important to speak my mind on this past week.

If Larry Flynt took a bullet for free speech, then who the hell took one for strippers?

Kit Smemo
Entertainment Editor

I like visceral experiences. Any instance where there will be a powerful rush of stimulation, a sudden awakening of a thousand nerve endings, or any kind of sensory explosion is ultimately what I crave. What else is there to even bother getting out of bed for?

Perhaps I exaggerate a bit. In reality, I don’t particularly harbor a depraved lust for life, nor do I ravenously tear through the streets in search of cheap thrills and cheaper pills. Far from it.

For instance, I’ve never been to a strip club before.

Four turnovers hand win to St. Olaf

Aaron Swanum
Sports Editor

Hamline football (2-5, 1-5 MIAC) jumped out to an early lead, but it wasn’t enough to hold back St. Olaf.

The Oles (5-2, 3-2 MIAC) worked out of a deficit to down the Pipers in a close 17-14 conference game.

There were a total of 10 turnovers in the contestčsix by St. Olaf and four by Hamline. The Pipers were also outgained 451-307 in total yards, despite Hamline quarterback Andy Gagnon’s two rushing touchdowns.
Sophomore Ben Dahmes led the Piper ground game with 71 yards.

Point/Counterpoint - College Democrats

Have you ever driven a car on the interstate highway system? Have you ever been to a national park, like Yellowstone or Yosemite? How about education? Taking into consideration that you are in college now, it is a pretty safe bet that you or someone you know went to a public school.

What do all of these things have in common? They are all funded, at least in part, by taxpayer dollars.

As much as the Republican party likes to vilify taxes by saying that they amount to the government “stealing” money from “hard-working Americans,” the truth is that taxes are kind of like a membership fee for being an American. Every Americančor at least Americans who obey the lawčpays taxes, and every American benefits from services that those taxes allow the government to provide.
