*Letter to the Editor* Youre tired? Im tired.

In response to the Oct. 5 Oracle editorial entitled “We Are Tired”:

I began reading the piece with some level of compassion, as I too struggle with many of the mentioned concerns. However, that compassion quickly turned to frustration.

I too feel as though our professors deserve salaries that better reflect the cost of tuition, though their career choices are indeed their own. I also work a full-time job, 20 hours a week at an internship, and have a full class load. That having been noted, fluorescent lights, among other futile issues, are the least of my concern.

One out of eight women will be raped while in college. One out of four women in college struggles with an eating disorder. Our campus crime statistics, including rape and aggravated assault at Hamline, have not been updated since 2002 (at the U.S. Department of Education website).

Yet, with all of this and much more happening around us, we have found time and space in our newspaper to acknowledge how tired “we” are that we have to wait outside for a door to be opened.

When you speak of your so called exhaustion, please do not include me as one you represent, as I am tired, but for far different reasons.

-Aimee Becker
