Safety and Security refuses to help student during harassment incident
A Hamline student was harassed by a man a few feet from campus Monday night, but when she called Safety and Security, she was refused assistance, she said.
Jenny Gladis was with a friend driving east on Englewood Ave. around 9:30 p.m. last night, when a middle-aged man jumped out of the bushes outside Sorin Residence Hall and stood in front of her car, she said.
She stopped her car and the man walked around to the drivers' side window. He gave her a story about needing $16 to pay for his towed car. After she said she had no money to give him, the man entered the rear drivers' seat of her car and sat down. Gladis said neither she nor her friend offered the man a ride or asked him to get inside the car.

First books for two prof authors
Hamline University professors Deanna Thompson and Susie Steinbach, both of whose first books were published in May of this year, will hold a book signing and reception on Wed, Oct. 6, to mark the occasion.
Thompson, who teaches in the religion department, says she is “just thrilled” about having her book released. It was a bit of a surprise to her, she said, because she never saw herself writing a book.
The motivation to complete this project came from her “one foot in, one foot out” relationship with the Christian religion.

The HU trade-off - Letter to the Editor
Our library is functional, but library materials often need to come from off-campus sources.
Our student center has a bookstore and food service, but it is not the gleaming hub of student life that a better building could be.
Our dorms have extensive history, and yet decrepit ovens and non-working microwaves are present.
Our sports aren’t necessarily bad; we just don’t win many games.
Our student activities board plans many events, but events that draw the general campus are few and far between.

Under the covers...with Molly Kirwan
Dear Molly:
I like to talk to my friends about sex, but I feel pretty self-conscious about it. I’m afraid that if I’m too open about it, I’ll come off as a total slut. How do I approach this topic without sounding like I’m bragging or a whore? Dirty Talker
