HOW TO APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID FOR 2013-2014
Please Note: The 2013-2014 FAFSA application is required for consideration for financial aid for the Fall 2013, Winter 2014, Spring 2014, and Summer 2014 semesters.
1. Gather the following documents:
- Federal income tax returns for 2012
- W-2 forms for 2012
- Records of untaxed benefits received for 2012
- Current bank statements
- Records of other savings and investments, such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Do NOT include retirement or pension accounts.
2. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the priority deadline (dates listed below):
- We strongly encourage you to begin the process in January by requesting a U.S. Department of Education PIN at www.pin.ed.gov prior to starting your FAFSA (if you don't already have a PIN).
- Apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and list Hamline's Federal School Code, 002354.
- We strongly recommend you elect to download tax data directly from the IRS using the Data Retrieval Tool.
3. Check to see if any additional documents are needed in Piperline. Check my eligibility. Once in Piperline, choose “Financial Aid Services”, then “Eligibility”. Use the drop-down menu to view the correct aid year. If you have been informed that you were selected for Verification, please go here for more information about the verification process.
If you feel the FAFSA has not allowed you to record all the factors that affect your financial situation, please request a "Special Circumstance" form from the Office of Financial Aid at finaid@hamline.edu.
