    Facilities Services Frequently Asked Questions  


      What services does the Facilities Services provide?
      Facilities Services is responsible for the maintenance and operations of the university facilities and grounds. Examples of the many services that we provide include: maintenance and repair of building structures, maintenance and repair of the utilities distribution systems, heating and air conditioning services, custodial services, grounds keeping and landscaping services.

      I would like to schedule a special event. Who should I call?
      The office of Classroom and Space Management handles the scheduling of all Hamline events. Please call them at ext. 2474 or visit their Web site.

      I need one of the light bulbs in my office changed. Who should I call?
      Submit a work order 

      When can I expect my request to be completed?
      The goal of the Facilities Services is to complete all non-emergency work order requests within ten working days. To check on the status of your work order, call the Facilities Service Desk at ext. 2225. Please have your work order number available so that we can access your request quickly.

      I'm a student and I can't get my window open. What should I do?
      Student maintenance request forms are available from your RA, Hall Director, or Apartment Director. Fill out the form and submit it to your RA, Hall Director, or Apartment Director. They will see to it that your request gets to us in a timely matter. If you have any questions about the status of your request, please contact your RA, Hall Director or Apartment Director. It is our goal to resolve your request within ten working days of receipt of your work order at the Facilities Service Desk.

      A toilet is overflowing in the restroom- Help! 
      In an emergency (i.e. emergency is a situation which presents immanent danger to life, limb, or property. When in doubt, treat the situation as an emergency.), please contact the Facilities Service Desk immediately by calling ext. 2225. If the emergency occurs after hours, during a holiday, or weekend, call the Office of Safety & Security at ext. 2100.

      I almost fell on an icy sidewalk. What should I do?
      Contact the Facilities Service Desk at ext. 2225. We will dispatch one of our staff to take care of the situation as soon as possible. Note: during winter storms we may have many such situations to take care of, but we appreciate you letting us know of any dangerous areas so that we can get to them as quickly as possible.

      I smell natural gas. Who should I contact?
      Contact the Facilities Service Desk at ext. 2225 immediately. If the situation arises after hours, or during a holiday or weekend, call the Office of Safety & Security at ext. 2100.

      I lost my door key. Who do I contact for a new key?
      Hamline residents should contact their RA or Hall Director immediately. The RA or Hall Director will submit a key request form to the Office of Safety & Security. If other campus personnel lose a key, they also need to fill out a key request form and submit it to the Office of Safety & Security. If you have any questions, contact the Office of Safety & Security at ext. 2100.

      I have my key, but I can't get my door to unlock. Who should I call?
      Contact the Facilities Service Desk at ext. 2225. If after hours, during a holiday, or weekend, call the Office of Safety & Security at ext. 2100.
