General Responsibilities

• The Dean of Students serves as a primary administrative contact and advocate for students in both graduate and undergraduate programs. Our charge is to work directly with these students to provide services and programs that enhance student life and the Hamline community.

• Provides general assistance to students who have concerns and/or questions;

• Acts as a point of contact for students who want to talk about issues of harassment, discrimination, and sexual misconduct;

• Is responsible for formulation and review of policies directly related to students;

• Provides emergency loan information to undergraduate students and discusses student needs in emergency situations;

• Is responsible for the production of campus publications specific to student needs and services (such as the Student Planner);

• Oversees the operation of Dining Services and the Hamline University Bookstore;

• Is the primary administrative contact for Parent Network and a point of contact for all parents' questions and concerns;

• Serves on the President's Staff as the voice and advocate for student issues, rights, and concerns.

Meet the Dean of Students

The Dean of Students, Alan L. Sickbert, and Assistant Dean of Students, Patti Klein, have open office hours (in Bush Student Center, Rooms 106, 107, or 108) every Wednesday during the school year from 4 to 5 p.m. Although our office has specific open hours when either Dean is in office, students are welcome to come in and discuss any type of concerns or issues. In addition, Alan Sickbert is a regular participant at the Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress (HUSC) weekly meetings on Tuesdays during Convo hour (11:20-12:40).
