Faculty Development Day on January 31,
2014 focused on "Experiential Education as a Liberating Art." The
CTL was pleased to welcome Garry Hesser, a professor of sociology at
Augsburg College and former president of the National Society for
Experiential Education (NSEE) and the Higher Education Consortium on
Urban Affairs (HECUA), as the keynote speaker and facilitator of the
half-day workshop. The workshop explored strategies to achieve
meaningful integration of academic content with real-world application
in courses, mentored experiences, and internships. Faculty
participated in hands-on, interactive exercises throughout the
morning, and left the workshop with a better understanding of the central role they play in helping students to synthesize the connections between theory and practice.
