    About Academic Advising

    Purpose

    Our purpose is to enrich students’ academic lives by offering accurate and timely academic advising. We seek to empower students to make effective educational choices based on their multidimensional and diverse life and vocational goals.

    Goals

    • To help students make the most of their academic careers to gain a well-rounded liberal arts education
    • To help reinforce students’ self-direction and decision-making skills
    • To help students develop educational plans and to clarify career and life goals
    • To help under-prepared students gain the skills needed to succeed in college
    • To help high-achieving students identify resources and opportunities to excel
    • To support faculty advisors in addressing students’ multidimensional needs

    Academic Advising is located in the lower level of Bush Library.

    About Our Staff

    Katie Adams
    Director

    Katie Adams completed her master of arts degree in educational psychology at the University of Minnesota with emphases in counseling and student personnel psychology. Prior to joining Hamline in 2000, she taught Spanish and worked as an advisor in the College of Liberal Arts at the University of Minnesota. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, downhill skiing, and working out.

    Mike Noreen
    Assistant Director

    Mike earned his master of arts in English from Iowa State University. Prior to coming to Hamline he worked for four years as an advisor in the Student Support Services Program at Iowa State. Mike enjoys spending his free time with his wife and young kids, playing with his Golden Retriever, and relaxing at his cabin during the summer months.

    Megan Jahnke
    Program Coordinator

    Megan earned her Bachelor of Arts in Public Communications from UW – Eau Claire.  Prior to coming to Hamline she worked in Human Resources at Argosy University and then transitioned into Student Finance, also at Argosy.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, camping, reading and traveling.

    Happy Holidays

    President Hanson sends students, faculty, and staff warm wishes for the holidays with a special Hamline holiday video.

    In the December episode of the Piper Report, the Piper reporters take a look at public transportation, the Minneapolis Holiday Market, the Drew Residence Hall holiday party, and the Hamline Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony.

    Acclaimed authors of literature for young people will offer free, public readings as part of the January residency for Hamline's Master in Fine Arts for Children and Young Adults.
