Dr. Anthony J. Nocella II, visiting professor in the Hamline School of Education, recently presented at Normandale Community College to more than fifty students, staff, and faculty, on “Speciesism, Environmental Destruction, and Critical Animal Studies.” Nocella argued that it is critical to address human impact on ecological world in order to have a more just and equitable education in and out of school. He also discussed the major impact that universities and schools have on the ecological world. Nocella further argued that how people treat nonhuman animals from entertainment to eating them can greatly negatively impact a youth’s value of respect and kindness to others. Nocella is the
co-founder of the field of critical animal studies and leading scholar in the field of ecopedagogy.
