New York (NMUN) Team Application Requirements

We are pleased to announce that Hamline University will once again be sending a team of students to the National Model United Nations Conference in New York City in Spring 2014 (approximate dates March 27 – April 4, 2014). The NMUN is the largest intercollegiate conference in the United States, with approximately 4,000 students representing teams from universities and colleges all over North America, Latin America, Africa, Europe, and Asia.

We will be selecting approximately 10 to 12 students to complete our delegation this year.  This selection process is competitive and requires a written application and interview.  Hamline University students from any major or at any level are welcome to apply.  The requirements for the application and the team are as follows:

    • Attend Model UN information sessions and activities.
    • Fill out Model United Nations Application/Essay Questions attached to this letter or from our Hamline University Model UN website.
    • Include copies of transcripts with application (If first year student, please submit high school transcripts; if international exchange student, letter of recommendation from home campus or copy of transcript.)
    • Include Faculty Recommendation Form.
    • GPA of at least 3.0 or better.
    • Complete interview after submitting application (you will be contacted.)
    • Selected team members must take Pol Sci 3600 Model UN in Spring 2013.
    • All team members, after selected, must submit trip fee (see below).
    • All team members, after selected, must participate in all required team activities.

Once the team is determined, all students will be required to sign a contract prior to trip departure regarding responsibilities and expectations during the trip. Also, if at any time students do not attend all required conference and trip activities in New York, or if they are dismissed from the team, they will be required to reimburse Hamline University $50.00 plus airfare and hotel costs.

We expect that an estimated trip fee of $50.00 will be charged per member of the team for attending the conference this year.  This fee goes towards remaining conference fees and airfare/hotel expenses not fully covered by Hamline.  Students are individually expected to pay food, ground transportation, and entertainment expenses while in New York.  All other hotel, conference registration and fees, and airfare will be paid by Hamline University through our Academic MUN Budget.  The trip fee will be collected immediately after the announcement of team members has been made.

Should you have further questions or concerns, please contact Melissa Barnes, Head Delegate for New York team at mbarnes05@hamline.edu or Professor Karen Vogel at kvogel@hamline.edu.
