  • Master of Arts in Education

    Take your teaching career to the next level with Hamline's Master of Arts in Education (MAEd). Designed to help you meet the challenges of today’s schools and society, the MAEd embodies Hamline’s tradition of relevant curriculum, outstanding faculty, and personal attention. 

    Distinguish yourself and enhance your professional resume by completing a certificate in one of 13 areas (including ESL and urban teaching) as part of your MAEd.

    AT A GLANCE

    Time required: Required courses can be completed in 18 to 24 months depending on program type. Capstone completion averages 10 to 14 months depending upon topic and student circumstances.

    Programs begin:

    February, June, and September


    Program types: Traditional: take your courses on Hamline’s beautiful Saint Paul campus, meeting face-to-face in a traditional classroom environment.

    Online: the MAEd is offered fully online for those seeking the same high quality academic experience in a format that’s convenient to their location or lifestyle.

     

     Curriculum:  A total of 34 semester credits: 24 required credits and 10 elective credits. All MAEd students also complete a capstone.
     
    Certificate options Earn a certificate as part of your MAEd. The following certificates can be taken as elective credits, allowing you to graduate with an MAEd plus a professional certificate.
    Adult ESL - 8 credits
    Autism Spectrum Disorder - 13 credits
    Book Arts - 11 credits
    Children's Literature - 10 credits
    College Admissions Counseling - 16 credits
    ESL for Mainstream Teachers - 10 credits
    Environmental Education - 10 credits
    Gifted Education - 12 credits
    Literacy for the Teaching of Reading and Writing - 12 credits
    Other Health Disabilities - 12 credits
    Teaching English as a Foreign Language - 8 credits
    Traumatic Brain Injury - 12 credits
    Urban Teaching - 10 credits
    Cost:   $375 per credit 
    (Students can fulfill their 10 elective credits by completing a certificate and pay the certificate rate for those courses).
