LiveText at Hamline
LiveText is a learning assessment software implemented at Hamline University to support and coordinate the learning outcomes assessment work defined by our Academic and Student Affairs programs.
The assessment tools that LiveText provides go beyond but do not replace what Blackboard provides as our learning management system (LMS). Thus a Hamline course might deliver course content in Blackboard, but also have some assignments that are submitted and assessed in LiveText.
Hamline University is in its second year of piloting the LiveText assessment software across different areas of study. Students who are enrolled in classes that use the LiveText software receive a keycode with which they can register their LiveText accounts.
How can students use LiveText?
- Create and share knowledge in collaborative learning groups
- Submit multiple drafts of assignments and review feedback from peers and instructors (with all drafts, evaluations, and assessments permanently archived for the student, instructor, and program)
- Track and reflect on progress toward particular learning outcomes over time, and archive work that demonstrates that progress, including audio and video files
- Create e-portfolios and share them with professors, co-curricular leaders, advisors, classmates, and employers
- Upload and manage files in a secure Personal File Manager with unlimited storage capacity and web access
How can faculty use LiveText?
- Assess student work using a variety of scoring types, such as analytic or holistic rubrics, percentages, or scoring guides
- Use rubrics or scoring guides aligned with program learning outcomes and other standards
- Communicate feedback in ways that facilitate an individual student's ability to track, reflect upon, and plan for progress toward program learning outcomes and other standards
- Aggregate assessments of student performance relative to particular outcomes or standards across a course, co-curricular learning experience, program, or school, and use LiveText's reporting functions to analyze that data
- Access a permanent archive of all student work submitted through LiveText and all accompanying evaluations and assessments
- Upload and manage files in a secure Personal File Manager with unlimited storage capacity and web access
- Develop personal portfolios for professional development and review
