    Noon to 1 p.m. Keynote Interview: Protecting Privilege When the Government is at the Door

    Amar Sarwal, Vice President and Chief Legal Strategist, Association of Corporate Counsel, interviews special guest Lauren Stevens, former vice president and associate general counsel of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK). Lauren was indicted in 2010 on charges of misleading the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about the pharmaceutical giant’s off-label promotion of its anti-depression drug Wellbutrin.

    1:15 to 2:15 p.m. Panel 3: Employment – Unconscious Bias and Discrimination

    The panel will discuss how unconscious bias results in barriers to hiring, retention, promotion, and professional development of employees, including lawyers, who are persons of color, women, and members of other protected class. Specific examples of unconscious bias involving Muslim workers will be looked at. The panel will explore unconscious, or implicit, bias in the courtroom. Finally, they will discuss what we can do as individuals and organizations to overcome unconscious bias.
