• Enrollment Process

    We are excited to have you join us at Hamline Law

    Your personalized 2015 fall class schedule will soon be available, but first, there are some important action steps you need to complete: 

    • Access Piperline, the University's secure website. Login information, including a Hamline ID and PIN, are sent to you via email. If you do not receive your ID and PIN, please contact Admissions. Piperline is used to make tuition payments, access your Hamline email account, register for classes, sign your Financial Agreement and Disclosure Form, and complete your immunization record. 
    • Pay your tuition deposit of $500 by the deadline referenced in your admission letter. Deposits may be paid via credit card or e-check through Piperline. You may also mail a check to: Hamline University School of Law Office of Admissions, MS-D2001, 1536 Hewitt Avenue, Saint Paul, MN 55104-1237.
    • Sign the Financial Agreement and Disclosure Form on Piperline. The cost for full-time tuition for 2015-2016 is $39,450. The cost for part-time tuition is $28,404. Merit-based scholarships were awarded to qualified students at the time of admission. If you plan to seek additional financial aid in the form of student loans, please complete the FAFSA as soon as possible. Hamline’s FAFSA code is 002354. Financial aid letters are typically distributed on a rolling basis, beginning in mid-March.     • Complete the immunization history form accessible through Piperline using your Hamline ID and PIN. All entering students are required to have health insurance. You will automatically be enrolled in Hamline's health insurance plan, unless you choose to waive it because you have other insurance coverage.     • Request a final transcript from your undergraduate degree-granting institution. It must be received prior to the start of classes and your matriculation at Hamline Law. The transcript(s) you submitted to LSAC.org during the application process do NOT qualify. Please have your degree-granting institution send the transcript to: Hamline University School of Law Office of Admissions, MS-D2001, 1536 Hewitt Avenue, Saint Paul, MN 55104-1237.Await your fall schedule from the Registrar. 

    Your first-year schedule is comprised primarily of ABA-required “bar” courses, for which the Registrar coordinates registrations. Course descriptions are available online. 

    Sometime this summer, please:

    • Update your contact information, if needed. Your preferred email address and current mailing address provided in your application is used for all Hamline-related correspondence. If it changes, please update the admissions office immediately: lawadm@hamline.edu or 651-523-2461. You will be issued a Hamline email address on or before August 1, 2015.
    • Fulfill the computer requirement. The 2015-2016 computer requirements and recommended system guidelines are available here: 2015-2016 Computer Requirements
    • Obtain a Hamline University photo identification card. All Hamline students need a photo ID card, which can be obtained from Safety and Security after paying your tuition deposit. You need this to use the law library and the Walker Fieldhouse, as well as other services on campus. Photo ID cards should be obtained prior to the start of classes and can be done at orientation.
    • Purchase textbooks from the School of Law Bookstore after August 1, 2015. Reading ahead is not recommended. First-year syllabi will be posted on the Law Library's website before the start of classes.
    • Attend orientation. Your final step in the Hamline Law enrollment process is to attend mandatory orientation. Orientation dates for Fall 2015 Weekend JD students is Saturday, August 8, 2015 - Sunday, August 9, 2015, and orientation for weekday, LLM, and transfer students is Monday, August 17 - Tuesday, August 18, 2015. You will receive more information about orientation early this summer. Weekend classes begin Saturday, August 15, 2015, and weekday classes begin Thursday, August 20, 2015. 

    Before Orientation, you need to:

    • Purchase textbooks. Here are the textbooks you will need for fall 2015. You can purchase them from the Hamline Bookstore or from an online vendor.
    • Complete your first assignments. Your first law school assignment will be during your WRAP (Writing & Research: Advocacy & Problem-solving) class at orientation. When it is available, it will be posted here. Your first year assignment will also be posted as they become available. Please check back frequently for updates.

    For Added Convenience…

    You may wish to pursue the following items prior to the start of classes:

    • Register your vehicle. Campus parking permits are required to park in any of the campus parking lots. Permits are assigned by Safety and Security following the results of a lottery, which takes place in late August. For more information about campus parking, to register your vehicle, or to sign up for the permit lottery, please refer to the Hamline University Parking Policy.
    • Secure on-campus or off-campus housing. Law students can live in the University's Graduate Apartments. Reserve a space today by submitting a $250 non-refundable housing deposit to the Office of Residential life via Piperline. Space is limited. Apartments are reserved on a first-come, first served basis, and often fill fast. If you have any questions, please contact Residential Life at 651-523-2061.

    If you prefer off-campus housing, Rent.com, Craigslist, or ApartmentList.com can be helpful resources. Hamline is located in Saint Paul’s Hamline-Midway neighborhood. Other nearby neighborhoods include: Como Park, Highland Park, Macalaster-Groveland, Summit Avenue, and Grand Avenue.
