Hamline Alumna First Hmong Elementary School Principal In U.S.

Hamline doctoral alumna Kaying Xiong is the first Hmong principal at an elementary school in the United States, according the Hmong Cultural Center in St. Paul.

Having immigrated to the United States from her native Thailand, Xiong made history in the United States when she became the principal at Locust Lane Elementary in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. After achieving a high school diploma, a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree, and becoming a principal, Xiong went on to receive her doctorate degree from Hamline University.
