Professor Sharon Press, director of the Dispute Resolution Institute (DRI), published an article entitled Certification: Lessons from Other Jurisdictions
in a special issue of Tan Pan: The Chinese-English Journal on Negotiation
. The special issue explores concepts and challenges related to the accreditation of mediators – a highly topical and controversial subject in Asia and elsewhere. In her article, Press asserts that a certification process is incomplete unless accompanied by an adopted standard of conduct, a process for handling complaints, and the authority to remove certification from an individual if warranted. Tan Pan
, a peer-reviewed journal co-founded and co-edited by Professor James Coben in cooperation with Shue Yan University in Hong Kong, is an outgrowth of the DRI’s five year Rethinking Negotiation Teaching project.
