Hamline University School of Law
was recently named one of the top five “Best Value” private law schools in America by The National Jurist
. Hamline was the only Minnesota law school to make the list and received a letter grade ranking of ‘B.’ Only one law school received a higher grade on that list.
According to The National Jurist, the “Best Value” rankings were created as a way to honor schools that took the cost of legal education seriously. The publication says that rankings take into consideration tuition, debt, and cost of living and compare those numbers with pass rates for the bar exam and the percentage of employed graduates. In a news release, The National Jurist added, “The study is designed to identify and recognize law schools that help students pass the bar exam and land jobs without burdening them with huge debt.”
“The National Jurist rankings are further testament to Hamline School of Law’s dedication to distinctive and innovative curriculum and the hard work of our faculty and staff in preparing students academically and professionally,” Hamline School of Law Dean Don Lewis said. “Our commitment to providing an accessible, robust legal education and to blazing pathways to meaningful employment for our graduates continues to be at the cornerstone of what we do. It’s gratifying to see that work recognized.”
The other top five law schools joining Hamline on the “Best Value” list are Brigham Young University, Baylor University, Notre Dame, and Duquesne University. This is the first time The National Jurist has ranked private law schools separate from public law schools. Law schools rounding out the top 20 on the list include Yale, Stanford, Boston College, and Drake.
These new rankings come just six months after news that the Hamline School of Law jumped 25 places on U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Law Schools” rankings. Hamline Law is now listed within the first tier of law programs in the United States on that list. The 25-place improvement was one of the largest jumps by a law school in the 2014 U.S. News rankings.
