Hamline Law Dean Donald Lewis gave a CLE presentation entitled, "Protect or Surrender: Attorney-Client Privilege During Investigations" at a breakfast series co-sponsored by the Hamline Health Law Institute and MSBA Health Law Section on April 19.

The ethical duty to protect clients’ privileged information is generally well known and understood among attorneys. However, this duty in the context of investigations into allegations of misconduct or regulatory violations present particular challenges and occasion for critical questions. Dean Lewis provided expert analysis of the contexts in which attorney-client privilege may be waived in the face of investigations and explained how to distinguish between the information that should be preserved versus information that may be surrendered and how to interact with law enforcement agencies who seek disclosure of information they've acquired during such internal inquires.

The MSBA Health Law Section and the Hamline Health Law Institute held the event at the Saint Paul Town and Country Club.
