Hamline School of Law Professor Mary Szto recently chaired a panel and presented at the third annual East Asian Law and Society Conference at Jiaotong University in Shanghai. She presented on Chinese contract formation and eating and drinking rituals. This conference brought together leading scholars from around the world. Szto also dined with alumnus Sean Pratt, JD '11, and his wife Julie in Shanghai. Pratt handles arbitration matters and mergers and acquisitions for the Global Law Firm in Shanghai. He had previously clerked at his firm as a Hamline summer extern.
In addition, Szto joined fellow Hamline Law Professor Marie Failinger at the Religious Legal Theory Conference at Touro Law Center in New York. Szto spoke on Chinese ritual and the practice of law, and Failinger gave a keynote address. This annual conference brings together leading scholars from around the country. During her stay in New York, Szto had lunch with Hamline Law alums Christina Bruno, JD '95, and Jon Trexlor, JD '03. The trio is pictured outside the Helmsley Building in New York. Trexlor is a litigator with Wong, Wong & Associates in Manhattan; he will supervise a summer extern from Hamline this year.
