For the second time inside of a week, Hamline's men's basketball team faces a co-leader of the MIAC currently having an unbeaten season. This time, however, they have to travel to do it.
The Pipers, fresh off a 82-58 win over St. Mary's Monday night that upped their overall record to 4-2 (2-1 MIAC) head to Si Melby Hall in Minneapolis to face Augsburg (6-0, 3-0) in their last pre-holiday game on Wednesday, December 5. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
Charlie Choiniere (No. 44 in the picture on the right) made a smashing debut as a starter against the Cardinals, scoring a career high 16 points as HU led from start to finish. Hamline sprinted to a 47-25 halftime advantage and stretched it as far as 27 points in the second half. HU shot a burning 60.1 per cent from the field. They rank second to St. Thomas in points per game (79.5) and field goal shooting percentage (.523). Choiniere, a senior from Oakdale, Minn., leads the league in FG Percentage with a whopping 14-17 (.824). Another Piper, Ryan Welsh, is tops in long distance accuracy by going 6-10 (.600) from three-point range.
They will face an Auggie team that is off to its best start in 15 years and earned conference wins last week over Gustavus Adolphus and Concordia. On Monday, they played some serious defense in a 59-50 win over Bethel. Parker Hines is their scoring leader at 15.3 ppg and Dan Kornbaum is second in the conference at nine rebounds per game.
