Kara Poirier (with ball) scored a season high 13 points, including 11 in the second half but Hamline's women's bb team couldn't derail an unbeaten St. Mary's team and took a 62-53 loss in Winona Monday night.
The senior guard drained three three-pointers to lead the Piper scoring. Steph Pilgrim added a dozen and seven rebounds. Je'Naya Brown scored just eight points but also snagged seven boards.
The Pipers (0-5 overall, 0-3 MIAC) led most of the first half only to see SMU go on a 7-2 run at the end of the half and lead, 27-24 at the break. HU scored the first four points of the second half but the Cardinals took off again, this time on a 15-5 run that moved them into a nine-point lead. The Pipers never got closer than six points the rest of the way.
Hamline returns home Wednesday, December 5 to face Augsburg at Hutton Arena. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The Pipers finish the week at Bethel Saturday, December 8, in a 3:00 p.m. game.
