It's a busy week for the HU women's basketball team. By the time they are done next Saturday at dinnertime, they will have a pretty good idea of where they stand in the competitive MIAC race.
The Pipers kick off a three-game week Monday, December 3 at St. Mary's. Game time is 7:30 p.m. HU returns to Hutton Arena Wednesday, December 5 against Augsburg, also at 7:30 p.m. They are at Bethel on December 8 for a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
Hamline (0-4 overall, 0-2 MIAC) is hoping they can put up the same kind of defensive effort they showed in Saturday's 59-41 loss at home to St. Thomas. The Tommies, the conference pre-season favorite, had scored 73 points in an impressive win over highly regarded Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The Pipers fell into an early hole against the Tommies and, despite eight first half points from Kara Poirier (pictured), trailed 34-18 at halftime. In the second half, HU snapped back, creeping within nine points at one point. They also forced the Tommies into 23 turnovers, well above their season average. Jordan Sammons and Steph Pilgrim led the Pipers in scoring with 11 points apiece.
They'll look for their first win against a Cardinal team (4-0, 2-0) that held St. Catherine to just 21 per cent shooting in a 40-22 win Saturday.
