Great start. Frustrating finish. In a nutshell, that was the story for the HU hockey team in a 4-2 loss to Bethel Friday night at Warner Coliseum.
After allowing a goal in the game's first 84 seconds, the Pipers took advantage of a two-player advantage to connect on a pair of power play markers just 30 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead midway in the period.
Jenny Magill started the onslaught when she took a pass from Corinne Henning and a fired a shot through traffic at 9:00. 30 seconds later, Chelsea Koehn finished off a three-way play with Henning and Magill and HU had a 2-1 lead.
The advantage stood until midway through the second period when a too many player on the ice penalty proved costly. The Royals connected on the power play to tie the game at 2. It stayed that way until 11:39 when Bethel broke the tie for good. The Royals sealed the deal with an empty net goal with four seconds left.
Sarah Schneekloth recorded 27 saves in goal for HU.
Hamline fell to 1-6-2 overall, 0-4-1 in the MIAC. The same teams meet Saturday, December 1 at the National Sports Center in Blaine. A video/stats feed provided by Bethel is available by clicking here.
