The Piper men's bb team looks to start 2-0 in MIAC play for the first time since 2007 when they host St. Thomas in the back side of a doubleheader Saturday, December 1 at Hutton Arena. Game time is approximately 3:00 p.m. Hamline (3-1 overall) hasn't started a season with four wins in their first five games in a decade.

They got conference play off to a good start with a heartening 75-59 win over St. John's Wednesday night at Hutton. HU started sharply, vaulting to an 8-0 lead and stretched it as far as 22 points in the second half. Dior Ford and Tyler Pannell led the offense with 16 points each. Pannell hit four three-pointers and needs just two more long distance successes to become the fifth player in school history (and the first in eight years) to reach the 100 mark.

Defensively, it was HU's best effort of the season. The 59 points allowed were 19 less than the previous season low for Hamline.

The Tommies (4-0, 1-0 MIAC), the unanimous preseason coaches' choice to win the league title, opened MIAC play with a 88-40 romp at Macalester. At 84.2 points per game, they are barely ahead of Hamline (84.0) to the top spot in offense. Although they only have one player (guard Will DeBerg) averaging in double digits, they have 10 other players who average 4.5 points per game or more.
