The Piper men's hockey team hopes to get an early holiday present this weekend when they face Bethel in a home and home series. The teams open the two-game set on Friday, November 30 at the National Sports Center in Blaine. Game time is 7:00 p.m.

They come back on short rest to battle in Vadnais Heights for a rare Saturday afternoon game that will begin at 2:00 p.m.

The Pipers (0-8-2 overall, 0-4 MIAC) came very close to giving head coach Doc DelCastillo his first win as HU mentor last Saturday but couldn't hold a third period lead and settled for a 3-3 tie with Lake Forest. Joe Rubbelke had two goals and an assist for Hamline and was named the MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete Of The Week for his efforts. The sophomore defenseman is tied for the league lead in points with 11.

The Royals have been an early season surprise, sprinting to a 3-1 MIAC start but stand just 4-6 overall. They opened league play with a sweep of Gustavus and a split with Concordia. Last weekend, however, they got decked twice  by the team the Pipers will play December 14 -- Milwaukee School of Engineering -- losing 4-1 and 3-2.

The November 30 game in Blaine is scheduled to have a live stats and video supplied by Bethel that can be accessed by clicking here.
