Joe Rubbelke continues to be one of the biggest offensive presences in the MIAC. The sophomore defenseman had two goals and an assist as Hamline's men's hocke3y held off a late charge in a 3-3 tie with Lake Forest Saturday night in Vadnais Heights. The Pipers (0-8-2) shook off an early deficit to take a pair oa pass fromf one-goal leads before settling for the OT tie.
Rubbelke tied the game at 13:045 of the opening stanza when he converted Zach Johnson's pass for a power play goal. In the second period, he teamed with Andrew Herbert for his second marker of the night to give HU a lead.
After the Foresters tied the game, Rubbelke turned playmaker, setting up Anthony Wolfe for the second extra man goal of the night late in the second period to give Hamline a 3-2 lead.
But the visitors tied the game in the third period and pressed hard the rest of the way. Nick Heimer, who had barely been tested in the first two periods in goal, fought off eight shots in the third period and three more in the OT to keep things square.
The Pipers return to MIAC play next weekend with a home and home series against Bethel. The teams play in Blaine Friday night and re-convene in Vadnais Heights Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
