Men's Basketball Looks For Second Straight Win Tonight

Dior Ford vs. UWL

Hamline's men's basketball team is hoping history will repeat itself Tuesday night ... but perhaps with a little less drama. Another Badger State invader -- this time, it is Wisconsin-Eau Claire -- visits Hutton Arena for a non-conference game. Tipoff is 7:00 p.m.

There were heroes galore as Hamline (1-0) opened the season with a pulsating 92-86 OT win over Wisconsin Lutheran last Saturday. Noah Aguirre led the Pipers with 20 points while Dior Ford (pictured) kicked in 17. Ryan Welsh added 14, including 3-for-3 from the three-point area. Marshall Jestings put the exclamation point on the game with four free throws and a steal in a five second span in the final minute of the extra session.

The Pipers were in mid-season ballhawking form with 17 steals. They shot well for the game (33-61, .541)  including going 13-for-24 (.542 percentage) from in three point attempts. But they went just 13-for-27 from the free throw line and also committed 19 turnovers.

The Blugolds are off to a 1-1 start, defeating Emmaus Bible, 76-40 before dropping a 79-73 decision to Goshen in a tournament last weekend in Platteville, Wis. They also lost an exhibition game to Sioux Falls, 73-49. In the annual WIAC preseason poll, they were pegged for sixth place.

Last season, WEC nipped HU, 77-75 at home on a pair of free throws with two seconds left in the game.

This is the first of two non-conference games for the Pipers this week. On Saturday, November 24, they play at Northwestern (MN) in a 7:00 p.m. game.
