Steph Pilgrim (pictured) had 16 points and Jordan Sammons added 11 but Hamline's women's basketball team fell to a late rally and dropped their season opdener at Wisconsin Lutheran, 58-53, Friday night. The Pipers rallied from an early deficit to vault to an eight point halftime lead at 34-26.
The host Warriors charged back to take a seven-point lead at 54-47 with a minute to play. But Pilgrim and Kara Poirier nailed three pointers as Hamline cut the margin to 55-53 with 23 seconds left. The Warriors then hit three free throws to put the game away.
The Pipers face Wisconsin-Stout, which lost 88-48 to DePauw on Saturday in Milwaukee. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
