Men First, Women Third At St. Mary's


Hamline's men's swimmng team claimed its first win of the season with a 525-408 win over St. Mary's in Winona Saturday. The women's team recorded 376 points to finish third in a four-team field.

The men started well with a win in the 200 medley (Parker Johnson, Ben Smidt,Connor Benson, Nick Herrera) and never looked back. Benson claimed first in the 100 backstroke (1:09.54) and repeated the feat in the 200 backstroke (2:34.68). Tyler Stanchfield took the 500 free (5:25.74). Smidt and Herrera went 1-2 in the 100 Butterfly and the quartet of Andy Wolf, Chris Sova, Jerry Daniels and Stanchfield won the 200 Free Relay in the time of 1:43.42. the Pipers put the meet away with wins in the 1650 Free (Stanchfield) and Smidt's solo effort in the 200 Butterfly.

Hannah Hawker had a good day for the Piper women. She won a tight 100 Backstroke race (1:04.72)  and (along with Marissa Smith, Valerie Madden and Maddy Stauber) took second in the 200 Medley Relay. Later, Hawker was second in the 100 backstroke.

Ingrid Haugan took the 3 Meter Diving crown with a 201.00 effort. Haugan was also second in the 1 meter. Smith took second in the 500 Free.
