Volleyball teams are used to seeing two opponents on the same day. But it doesn't happen very often in a non-tournament situation. But such will be the case on Wednesday, October 3 when Hamline hosts North Central and St. Catherine's in matches at Hutton Arena.
The Pipers (13-5, 0-5 MIAC) will face the Rams, who are 1-16 in their first year in the UMAC in a 4:00 p.m. affair. (Please note this is a time change. It had originally been scheduled for 5:00 p.m.) They will then tangle with the Wildcats (8-9, 2-3 MIAC) in a conference match at 7 p.m. A ticket gives you admission for both matches.
It's the start of a four-game homestand for Hamline. Luther will be at Hutton on Saturday, October 6 and Gustavus Adolphus comes to town on October 10 before the Pipers return to the road for a tournament in LaCrosse, Wis.
Hamline has been rough on non-conference, winning all 13 matches played so far. In compiling this perfect slate, they have been pushed to the five-set limit just twice. Last year, they defeated North Central, 3-0, on the Rams' home court in Minneapolis.
The Wildcats, who were 18-11 last season, were picked for ninth in the conference preseason poll. Although they have dropped four of their last five matches, they have conference wins over Augsburg and Carleton.
Both matches will be available via webcast and a live stats link that can be found on the front page of the athletic website.
