As the Hamline volleyball season heads into its final third, coach Audrey Ludwig is finding new faces leading the pack every time out.
On Saturday, it was sophomore Paige Walters (pictured at right) and first year player Michelle Mattke who swung the heavy hands in a competitive 3-1 loss at Bethel. After dropping the first set 11-25, HU rallied for a 27-25 decision to even the match. The homestanding Royals then claimed 25-18 and 25-23 decision to drop the Pipers to 13-5 on the season, 0-5 in the MIAC.
Walters had a season high 13 kills and nine digs while Mattke recorded 10 kills, also her best effort of the season. Lynsey Reimer registered a team high 28 digs. As a team, Hamline had 83 digs, their best effort on the season. Becka Mozes added 20 assists for HU.
Hamline now returns to Hutton Arena for their next four matches, including three next week. On Wednesday, October 3, they will host an unusual doubleheader. North Central will be the opponent for a 4:00 p.m. match (Note this is a time change. It had originally been scheduled for 5:00 p.m.) with MIAC foe St. Catherine the visitor for a 7:00 p.m. match.
