Austin Duncan certainly doesn't run like a first year back. The New Orleans, La native had another good afternoon with 85 yards rushing to lead the Hamline offense. Unfortunately, Gustavus had a running back of their own -- Jeffrey Dubose -- who rushed for 131 yards and four touchdowns in the Pipers' 37-0 loss in St. Peter Saturday afternoon.
Hamline fell to 1-3 overall, 0-3 in the MIAC.
Duncan moved solidly into the team lead for rushing with 314 yards for the season. He carired 21 times but lost just four yards all day..
It was a frustrating day for HU, which ran 70 plays to Gustavus' 67 and also led in time of possession (31:35-28:25). But HU, which trailed just 10-0 at halftime, also fumbled on three consecutive possession in the third quarter. The Gusties scored on two of those turnovers and too charge of the game from there.
Zach Brautigam saw his most extensive action of the season at quarterback, completing eight of 19 passes for 97 yards.
On defense, John-Michael Vandenberg was impressive again, finishing with 14 tackles (seven solo, seven assists). He has 50 this season to lead the team.
The Pipers return home to face St. Olaf for Homecoming and Hall Of Fame ceremonies on October 6. Game time at Klas Field is 1:00 p.m.
