In European soccer parlance, they are called "friendlies" - a term used for games that, in theory, don't matter. Both Piper soccer teams, however, have good reason for viewing their games today against Northwestern as something more than just another afternoon on the pitch.
The men (2-4-1 overall) travel to Roseville to face the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Alex Morawiecki's team is hoping to continue the momentum earned from the team's most rousing performance of the season -- a 3-2 win over previously undefeated Buena Vista last Sunday at Paterson Field. For their third game in four days, the Pipers face an Eagle team that currently stands 3-2 on the season. One of those wins was a 1-0 decision over Bethel.

Ted Zingman's women's team will be looking to snap a two-game mini-skid when they host the Eagles at Paterson Field in a 5:00 p.m. affair. The Pipers stand 4-1-1 overall but they are coming off a week where they scored just once in 200 minutes against Concordia ( 2-0 loss) and Bethel (1-1 tie). The visitors come in with a 2-2 mark. One of those losses came to Bethel, 4-0. Both teams return to conference action this Saturday. The men play at Macalester in a 7:00 p.m. game. The women host the Scots at Paterson in a 1:00 p.m. start.
