The Piper volleyball team's school record eight-match winning streak came to a halt Wednesday in a 3-0 home court loss to Concordia. The powerful Cobbers looked like anything but a team that had won just two of their eight non-conference matches in recording the decision.
Bolstered by an enthusiastic home crowd, the Pipers came out hard, grabbing the lead several times in a spirited Game 1. It was a defensive battle on both ends with both teams hitting well below their season averages. CC pulled away late for a 25-19 decision. the visitors carried the momentum into Game 2 for a 25-12 win and kept it up with the 25-11 decision to clinch the match. Karley Kilian (pictured) led Hamline with four kills on offense. Lynsey Reimer had 16 digs and Frankie Miller had 10.
The Pipers did hold Concordia to a .168 hitting percentage, 36 points off their season average.
Hamline returns to action this weekend with a four-pack of games. This time, however, it's a short trip. The Pipers will face Luther and Bethany Lutheran on Friday and have rematches with Crown and Wis-Stout on Saturday in a tournament at St. Catherine's.
