Championship soccer teams get that way by not relying on simply one or two players to carry the scoring load. Kelsey Carraciolo proved that Saturday by scoring both of Hamline's goals in a 2-0 women's soccer win over Central in Pella, Iowa. Molly Jacobs stayed perfect in goal with three saves as Hamline improved to 3-0 with the win.
Carraciolo, a senior from Bozeman, Mont., helped HU take control of the game when she converted an Aileen Scheibner for her first goal since her freshman season (2009) just 1:45 into the game. The Pipers kept up the pressure the rest of the half, holding the Dutch shotless.
The home team cranked it up a bit in the second half but Jacobs held firm until 74:23 when Carraciolo struck again, this time on a feed from Brienne Garside. That was all Jacobs needed for her third shutout in a row. It marked the first time Hamline's women team had recorded three straight blankings since doing so to wrap up the 2007 season. Hamline outshot Central, 8-3, for the game.
The Pipers will look to make it four in a row with a rare Sunday matinee at Cornell. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
