Hamline Law alum Eric Toney, JD ’09, will become the top prosecutor for Fond du Lac County when he takes office in January 2013 as the county’s next district attorney.
Toney earned 9,367 of the 15,772 cast in the Republican primary for Fond du Lac County District Attorney on Aug. 14. Because there were no Democrats on the ballot for this race, Toney is virtually guaranteed to become the next District Attorney.
Born and raised in Fond du Lac County, Toney currently practices law for O’Rourke Law Office, where he focuses on criminal law.
“I am honored and grateful for the overwhelming support I received from the voters,” Toney said. “The results demonstrate that the voters were attracted to our positive campaign and my desire to restore public trust. I will resolve all cases solely on the merits. Although I am a Republican, I don’t view District Attorney as a partisan position. I will be a prosecutor, not a politician.”
Toney earned the support of an impressive group of community leaders in his first campaign for public office, including Former Fond du Lac County Sheriff Gary Pucker, Sheriff Mick Fink, County Executive Allen Buechel, and former Deputy District Attorney Charlie Schneider. Toney also had a dedicated group of volunteers and supporters who delivered literature, walked with him in parades, delivered yard signs, organized events, and assisted his campaign in numerous other ways.
