Becky Culp's magnificent 2011-12 track season has reaped one last reward. The Lino Lakes, Minn. native, who will be a senior this fall, has been named to the 2012 USTFCCA (United States Track & Field And Cross Country Association) Division III All-Academic team. To qualify for this prestigious team, a
student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and
have met either of the following athletic standards: a student-athlete must have
competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship or finished the regular
season ranked in the national top 35 in an individual event.
Culp, a Physics major who attended Centennial High School, has hit those goals ... and then some. In her addition to her solid book work, she excelled in field events in 2011-12. At the MIAC Indoor Meet, she won the discus and finished fifth in the weight throw. She bettered that at the conference Outdoor Meet, winning the discus and shot put and finishing fourth in the hammer throw. For that effort, she was named Outstanding Field Athlete of the meet. At the NCAA D-III meet, she unloaded the discus 147-9, her best effort of the year. It earned her a third place finish and a return trip to the All-American team.
