Dave Wright, who has been involved in MIAC
athletics for four decades, has been named Sports Information Director at
Hamline University. Wright had been serving as the school’s interim SID since
last August when he was hired as a replacement for Stephanie Harris, who
handled the position from 2007 to 2011.
“I greatly enjoy being here. The staff and
athletes are a joy to be around,” Wright said. “It’s a terrific job with a lot
of variety. And it is wonderful to stay involved in this conference.”
A past winner of the MIAC’s Mike Augustin
Award, Wright started his professional career as a student SID at St. Thomas. He
also served in that role at Concordia University from 1999-2002.
The Detroit, Mich. native has worked with
Hamline’s athletic director Jason Verdugo in the past. Wright was the first
person hired by the Saint Paul Saints baseball team when the team was founded
in 1992 and served as media relations director during Verdugo’s days as a
pitcher and, later, as coach for the team.
In addition to his SID and Saints’
experience, Wright has written several freelance articles printed in national
newspapers and is the author of “162-0: Imagine A Twins’ Perfect Season”, a
historically based fantasy that was published by Triumph Books in 2010. He has
also served as a public address voice and a media liaison for college and high
school athletic events in the Twin Cities, including several MSHSL and NCAA
tournaments. "I know Dave has a passion for this kind of
work,” Verdugo said. “He stepped in on short notice last year and quickly got
up to speed on all our teams. I’m glad to be working with him again.”
As Sports Information Director, Wright is
responsible for content on the school’s athletic website as well as overseeing
publications and all the statistical functions at home events.
