Timing is, indeed, everything. With the MIAC Track and Field meet on the horizon later this week, HU distance runner
Jack Deichert warmed up for it nicely at the Pipers' home
Meet of the UnSaintly Saturday despite what could charitably be called less-than-ideal conditions. He ran a personal best time of 3:51.92 to win the
1500-meter run. The time was slightly more than a second off the school record and placed him in the top 15 in the country in Division III.
For his performance, Deichert
was named the final MIAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete-of-the-Week of the 2012
season.
Deichert's win was even more impressive when you consider the rest of the field
featured top runners from other MIAC and Division II teams. It is the
second-fastest time in the MIAC this season and just one of three under 3:54.
His time currently ranks him 13th overall in all of Division III in the
1,500.
Deichert and the Pipers hope history can repeat itself this weekend at the 2012 MIAC
Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Moorhead, Minn. Friday's action starts with field
events at 11 a.m. and track events at 1:30 p.m., while Saturday's field events
start at 11:30 a.m. with track to begin at 1 p.m. Last year, Hamline finished a close second to St. John's, losing out by four points. The Piper men will be bidding for their first outdoor conference crown since 1982.
