The MIAC Track and Field meet in Moorhead is still a week away. But this much is certain: Hamline senior Devin Monson will be one of the most watched fellows in Moorhead. Monson's effort of 29:37.13 last weekend in the 10,000 Meters in Hillsdale, Mich. has landed him his second spot in the Top Ten performances among Division III tracksters. Monson ranks fourth in the country in ranking compiled by the USTFCCCA (United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association). His effort is less than 14 seconds from the top time in the land.
Monson already had a place in the 5,000 meter elite, ranking 10th with a 14:29.72 performance on April 6.
Brennan McKeag is the other Piper who makes dual appearances in the USTFCCCA rankings. McKeag ranks eighth in the Hammer (190-11) and sits at 23rd nationally in the Shot Put. Jack Deichert earned a place on the leaderboard at 25th place in the 1500 Meters with his 3:54.78 effort at Hillsdale. Joe Morelli sits 32nd in the Shot Put.
As a team, the Piper men have moved up to third in the Central Region rankings, ahead of league rivals St. Thomas, Gustavus, Bethel and St. John's.
The Piper men will be busy prepping for their conference meet. They will be at the Concordia (St. Paul) Twilight Meet on May 2 and return home for the two day Meet Of the Unsaintly at Klas Field May 4-5.
