Softballers Drop DH To UW-Stout In Season Finale

Hamline's softball team managed just five hits in each game and dropped their season-ending doubleheader at Wisconsin-Stout, 7-1 and 4-1. Lauren Turitto was the top Piper plugger in Menominee, going 4-for-5 on the day to finish the season with a .305 mark.

She was one of four regulars who ended 2012 over .300. The 1-2-3 batters in coach Jim Rubbelke's regular batting order sparked the Pipers' offense. Bethany Hine led the team with a .379 mark, followed by Laura Randall (.369) and Cecily Abbadessa (.320).

HU fell into an instant hole in Game 1 Tuesday. The Blue Devils scored a run and poured in four more in the third. The lone HU run came in the seventh when Lauren Clouston walked, moved to third on Turitto's double and scored on Sammi Mau's single.

The season finale started better. Hine was hit by a pitch to open the game. Randall, whose 16-game hitting streak ended in Game 1, singled. Abbadessa followed suit to load the bases. Clouston's infield single scored Hine but that was as far as Hamline's offense would go. The Blue Devils tied the game up the next inning and scored two in the fourth to take the lead for good.

Hamline, which had just one senior (Jessica Churchill) on its roster, finished the season with a 10-28 overall won-loss mark.
