Devin Monson set a new school record. Andrew Schlichting bettered a personal high. Accordingly, both have been honored by the MIAC as its first Outdoor Men's Track and Field Athletes Of The Week for 2012. The pair's heroics came on the home turf of Klas Field April 6 at the Hamline Invitational. Monson finished the 5,000 meters in front of the pack in a time of 14:29.72. That obliterated the previous school mark by nearly seven seconds. But it did more than that. Monson's impressive effort is the best outdoor time in this event in 2012. Monson has been honored twice previously for his efforts in Cross Country.
Schlichting registered his new personal best in the hammer in the SJU/CSB Invitational in Collegeville on
March 31. His throw traveled a distance of 55.62 meters, or 182-06.00 feet, easily besting his previous personal best of 53.79 meters. The new mark ranks as the 16th-best throw in all of Division III thus far in
2012. Schlichting's distance ranks second in the MIAC this season, trailing only
teammate Brennan McKeag's 58.19-meter throw. This is the second MIAC
Athlete-of-the-Week honor for Schlichting in 2012 after also winning the honor
once during the indoor season.
Monson, Schlichting and their teammates are busy the nest two weeks. Hamline will be at the Luther Invitational this Saturday and will be in action twice next week ... at the Tomcat Invite on Friday, April 20 and at the Carleton Invitational on April 21.
