Pipers Drop Pair At La Verne

Laura Randall looks ready for the 2012 season. Randall slapped out five hits but the Pipers dropped a doubleheader to La Verne Monday afternoon, 4-0 and 13-5.

In the opener,  Randall broke up Laura Olson's bid for a no-hitter with a two out, seventh inning single through the box. Until then, the only HU baserunner had come in the fifth inning when Lauren Clouston, the losing pitcher, worked a one-out walk. On the mound, Clouston pitched commendably, allowing solo runs in the second and third inning and a two-RBI homer in the sixth.

In the nightcap, Randall picked up the slack even harder. She had a pair of doubles and a pair of singles, scoring two runs. Clouston had a pair of singles and batted in three runs. But the Leopards (13-9) pounded out 15 hits and scored in five of the six innings played in the game.

Hamline is now 1-7 overall. They will play Hope International Tuesday.
