Hoop Teams Have Different Incentives But Same Goals Today at Mac

They have two very different incentives but the Hamline basketball teams travel to Macalester Saturday afternoon with the same goal: end the regular season on a positive, winning note.

The women face the Scots at Leonard Center at 1:00 p.m. The men's game follows at roughly 3:00 p.m. You can watch both games via a webcast or simply follow the stats online by clicking here.

For the women (7-17 overall, 6-15 MIAC), it's a chance to turn around a tough 61-60 loss to the Scots at Hutton Arena last month. That day, Jordan Sammons, who is having a wonderful freshman season, scored the last of her 16 points to tie the game with 43 seconds to play. But the Scots (11-13 overall, 9-12 MIAC) hit a free throw with 22 seconds left and held on for the win.

The men have a very different motive. Hamline is currently part of a three-way tie for 5th place with a 10-9 league mark (12-12 overall). The Pipers need a win today and either a Bethel loss at Gustavus or a St. John's loss at home against Concordia to advance to the MIAC postseason for the third year in a row. If they do, they will play Wednesday night at either St. Olaf or Augsburg. These are teams they split with during the regular season.

Mike Campbell scored 21 points and Dior Ford added 17 as Hamline handled Macalester (1-23 overall, 1-18 MIAC) easily at Hutton, 91-56. But the Scots were playing without leading scorer Pierce Peters, who is second in the league in scoring, averaging nearly 19 points per game.  They also have been playing better defense as witnessed the other day when Augsburg barely survived a 58-56 game at Leonard Center.
