Courtney Benson Wins Third All-Around Athlete Of Week Honor

Courtney Benson 's star shone brightly at the Best of Minnesota Invitational last Saturday. Although the HU sophomore didn't win any events, she stood up so well to the field she has been named WIAC All-Around Athlete Of The Week for the third time this season.

The annual event brings the state's four schools that offers intercollegiate gymnastics (Minnesota, Hamline, Winona State and Gustavus) together for a spectacular showcase.

Benson was less than two points from first place in the overall All-Around competition, finishing a close fourth with a score of 37.850 points. The only competitors she trailed were from the U of Minnesota.. Individually, she was sixth in Floor Exercise (beating out one Gopher), seventh in Uneven Parallel Bars and Balance Beam and tied for 10th in the Vault.

Benson and her teammates hit the road this week for Milwaukee, Wis. They will compete at the Harley Invite Midwest Twisters event Friday night. Hamline returns home to host Winona State Feb. 26 at 1:00 p.m.
