Andrew Schlicting apparently believes in gradual progress. When he was a freshman, he finished fourth in the Weight Throw at the MIAC Indoor Championships. He improved to third place as a sophomore and was second as a junior last year. This year, he has set his sights even higher. Schlicting's throw of 18.03m (59.2 feet) was the winning effort in the St. Thomas Invitational last Friday. It has earned him the MIAC Men's Field Athlete Of The Week honors.
Schlichting's throw Friday is the best by any MIAC athlete this winter and ranks No. 12 in the country among Division III competitors.
It is the third time in HU career he has won this honor. Andrew also was honored twice in 2010. He is the second Piper to be named this year. Shaise Schuette was the first recipient of the award in mid-January.
