Top Ten List Gets A Workout In CC Meet

Hamline won a lot of the individual battles and did some serious rewriting of the school Top Ten list  in a women's swimming dual meet with Concordia Friday night at Bush Student Center Poll. But the Cobbers' depth was too much to overcome and the visitors claimed a 154-75 decision.

The Pipers won six of the 13 events. Michelle Vargason and Hannah Hawker gained a pair of wins each. Vargason claimed first in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke while Hawker was victorious in the 200 Freestyle and the 100 Backstroke. In the latter race's Hawker's winning time of 1:02.86 earned her a place in the school's All-time Top Ten list in that category. Ironically, the person she bumped off the list -- Holli Bowman -- was in attendance Friday night. Holli had a person reason to be there : Hannah is her daughter.

Hawker, Vargason, Erin Weslander and Hannah Hankins were part of the 200 yard medley team that won their race in a season best time of 2:04.58.

Ingrid Haugan continued to impress on the diving board. Her winning score of 223.50 in the 3 meter competition is fourth best ever recorded by a Piper diver. Her score of 216.50 in the 1 meter competition earned her a second place finish and is the sixth best ever in school history in  that category.

Haugan has an early call Saturday. She will be diving at the St. Kate's Invitational at 8:30 a.m. The Pipers swimmers will hit the same pool at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
