Christian kicks out 41 in 2-2 tie

Beau Christian had another busy Friday night. Fortunately for the Hamline's men's hockey team, he was in excellent form. The senior goalie stopped a season high 41 shots as the Pipers played to a 2-2 OT tie at Augsburg. Jordan Van Gilder had a goal and an assist for the Pipers, who are 6-10-1 overall (3-5-1 in the MIAC).

Van Gilder got things going early, taking a feeds from Joel Scatterelli  and Brian Arrigoni for a goal just 5:41 into the game. Augsburg struck back nine minutes later to tie the game,

The game stayed stuck at 1 until Tim Olson, with help from Nick Widing  worked his way in for his first goal of the season 1:08 into the third period. But the Auggies came back a minute later to retie the game. Although the Pipers went on to outshoot the Auggies, 16-14, in the third period and 3-2 in the extra session, there was no more scoring..

HU had two power plays in OT but the Auggies tightened considerably and refused to allow a shot on goal either time.

The teams have a rematch scheduled for Saturday at 2 p.m. at Vadnais Heights Sports Complex. The game will be broadcast online. Fans can listen in by going to http://www.tjsportsonline.net.
